April GCG meeting – follow up

Hello everyone,

At the April GCG meeting held last Saturday we were lucky enough to have Luke Howison the creator of NZ Ancestor Helper web application presenting the app and it’s history by Zoom to us.
Luke is an extremely talented web developer who demonstrated his site NZ Ancestor Search Helper (howison.co.nz)
and also Archway-style Collections Search (howison.co.nz) providing various search techniques and hints.
Those that attended both at the FRC in Auckland and via Zoom were all very impressed with Luke’s work.
So I do encourage you all to please consider coming along to our future meetings where possible as you may pick up all sorts of useful information & tips.

There was also discussion at the meeting regarding a recent NZ Herald article where a person had lost 30 years of Genealogical research when he tried to leave Xtra mail due to monthly charges being introduced in May.
If any members are with Xtra and are going to change to avoid the charges, they need to take note of this now.
The simple answer to saving your email is to use the ‘Export’ function in Xtra to move their email into a new application.
A full transcript of the article is available here.

The committee would also love to know which talks and/or speakers you would like to have at our meetings, so that we can fulfil your expectations and needs. So please drop an e-mail to jonsops@gmail.com with any suggestions.

Lastly a kindly reminder to please consider renewing your annual subscription or becoming a member – only $15 to access all our Gencom magazine issues. Payment can be made via credit card on our website or via internet banking to the GCG account ASB 12-3030-0481929-00.

Regards,
Chris Bayley.
